Engaging Children in Safeguarding

A culture where children and young people feel safe, heard, and supported.

Child safety risks aren't confined to a child's personal environment. The Royal Commission has shown how they can also arise within organisations and community environments. This training is vital for all establishments working with or coming into contact with children and their families.

This training explores the critical role of child participation in safeguarding, providing practical strategies to engage children and families in a meaningful and safe way. It ensures your organisation’s safeguarding measures are not just well-intended but truly effective in protecting those they are designed to support.

Training is available as:

  • Facilitated In-Person Training

  • Facilitated Exclusive Online Classes via our Virtual Classroom

Children and young people have the right to be heard and actively involved in their own safety. A strong safeguarding culture ensures their voices are empowered, helping to break silences that can mask harm and fostering a trusted ‘say something’ environment. When children feel empowered to speak up, risks can be identified earlier, harm can be prevented, and organisations can ensure they provide safeguarding measures that align with children’s and young people’s perceptions of being and feeling safe.

By the end of this class, learners will be able to:

  • Recognise how children and young people perceive safety and what it means to feel and be safe.

  • Identify ways to integrate child participation across essential safeguards and understand the importance of including children and young people in an organisation’s safeguarding culture.

  • Outline the safeguarding structures required to support and empower young people’s participation.

  • Recall practical, family-friendly methods for engaging and empowering children and young people in safeguarding.
