Kim Dickinson

Kia Ora,

I'm Kim, the person behind Holistic Safeguarding. Following meeting Child Matters in the UK, I was offered a Consultant role here in Aotearoa. Since moving to this beautiful country, I have:

  • Served as a Consultant for both of Aotearoa's Child Protection Charities.

  • Led YMCA North to become New Zealand's first Safeguarding Accredited Organisation and secure its accreditation renewal.

  • Supported many sectors and organisations with tailored safeguarding solutions meeting their bespoke needs and safeguarding best practice.

My career started, working with offenders in correctional facilities.  It was this that influenced me moving into child protection. I then joined the UK's leading child protection charity (NSPCC), where I served as a Senior Consultant for over a decade, before going self-employed.

My background gives me particular knowledge and skills in understanding and applying safeguarding solutions for universal and bespoke organisations. With those solutions being mindful of safeguarding everyone, children/young people, staff and the organisation. I'm also able to help organisations develop their safeguarding practice from required levels, to best practice, to accredited practice. It really depends on the organisation's needs and what they wish to achieve. However, the fundamentals of making sure that support is tailored and proportionate always remains.

I am truly passionate about safeguarding and child protection.  All tamariki, rangatahi and adults should be safe from harm. Our organisations and workforces should also be safe from exploitation and feel confident and empowered in serving our communities. Sadly, given the horrific prevalence of abuse and neglect, we all desperately need to recognise safeguarding as a shared responsibility.
